Veterinary surgeon Mel Kavanagh is signed up to take part in the VELO Birmingham 100 miles cycle ride to raise funds for South Birmingham Branch of Cats Protection.
The South Birmingham Branch of Cats Protection are currently in need of volunteer trappers to help with Trap, Neuter/Spay & Return, which involves capturing feral cats & helping them by getting them Neutered/Spayed & then returning them to their environment. The Feral Cat population is sadly growing and we therefore require assistance in this area.
If you could help the branch carry on this vital work then please contact us on 0345 371 1854 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
We are currently looking to expand our team of volunteer cat fosterers.
As a fosterer you will be directly helping cats and kittens in need; providing them with hands on care and working with others to rehome them, ultimately, providing them with a second chance of a happy and healthy life.
If you have a spare room and would like the opportunity to help cats and kittens by fosterering short term then we would like to hear from you.
All expenses including veterinary treatment, food and litter will be met by Cats Protection. Fosterers provide the time, patience and love.
If you are up for the fun and challenge of this role then please call us on 0345 371 1854 or email email@example.com
Don’t ignore the shy ones.
That shy cat or kitten may be just the pet you are looking for.
Not all the cats and kittens that come into our care are from a happy and settled environment. Others just find moving into foster homes stressful and so try to hid away.
Then there are those who may have been shooed away by people when trying to find food, some may have been strays for so long they don’t want to interact.
Our team of fosterers work hard to gain the trust of these cats. They make them feel loved without rushing the process. One step at a time we help these cats to gain confidence.
New owners of a shy cat may have to give a bit more time and patience but the end result is so worth it. The bond you have when a shy cat grows in confidence and trusts you is one of the most rewarding feelings you can have as a pet owner.
As of 15th June 2016 our waiting list for cats to come into foster care for rehoming is in excess of 8 months long. This is an unrealistic timescale to expect people to have to wait to rehome their cats. We also have a shortage of volunteer fosterers. For these two reasons we unfortunately have had to make the difficult decision to close our waiting list until further notice.
DUE TO THE RECENT RISING COSTS OF VETERINARY TREAMENTS AND CAT FOOD, WE WILL, REGRETFULLY, BE INCREASING OUR ADOPTION FEE TO £65.00 PER CAT/KITTEN.
This increase comes into force on 1st April 2016 and includes all treatments previously given to the cats and kittens in our care.
i.e.All our cats are vet checked, blood tested, treated for fleas and worms, fully vaccinated, micro chipped and if old enough neutered
If you adopt from us you can adopt with confidence
Birmingham Regional Neutering Campaign
Cats Protection are running a neutering campaign in the B1 – B45 postcode areas. Under the campaign you can get your pet cat neutered for just £5.
If you receive a state benefit, are on a low household income or are a full time student or pensioner, you should qualify for help.
To get your cat neutered as part of this campaign please call 03000 12 12 12 option 2, or our HelpLine on 0345 371 1854 for details of your nearest participating vet.
The campaign only covers the cost of the neutering operation and any extra costs will need to be covered by the owner.
The campaign only covers pet cats and stray cats (where exhaustive efforts have been made to find an owner). If you have a feral cat, they cannot be neutered using the campaign, please call Cats Protection Neutering Helpline directly on 03000 12 12 12 option 2 and they will be able to advise you on what help they can offer - you may be referred to your local branch - this phone number is charged at local rates.
